Terms & Conditions

Last updated: May 2025

Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before using See Colour (seecolour.com). By accessing or using the website, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

See Colour is owned and operated by an individual based in England, United Kingdom. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

1About See Colour

See Colour is a free, publicly accessible web tool providing:

  • An archive and reference grid of accessible colour pairs meeting WCAG 2.1 AAA contrast standards (7.0:1 ratio or above)
  • An interactive contrast ratio checker allowing users to test custom colour combinations
  • Curated, downloadable colour palettes
  • A colour matching and inspiration tool
  • Automatically generated descriptive names for colour pairs

See Colour does not provide professional design, accessibility compliance, or legal advice. The tools are provided for reference and inspiration purposes only.

2Eligibility and Use

By using See Colour, you confirm that:

  • You are at least 18 years old, or are using the site under the supervision of a parent or guardian
  • You will use the site only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these terms
  • You will not attempt to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorised access to any part of the site or its underlying systems

3Free Tools and Features

The core tools on See Colour — including the contrast checker, archive grid, and colour pairing tool — are provided free of charge. We reserve the right to change, limit, or discontinue any free features at any time without notice.

4Paid Features: Palette Downloads

4.1 Payment

Certain colour palette downloads may be made available as paid products. Where a charge applies, this will be clearly displayed before purchase. Payments are processed by a third-party payment provider and are subject to their terms in addition to ours.

4.2 Pricing

All prices are displayed in Great British Pounds (GBP) and are inclusive of any applicable VAT unless otherwise stated. We reserve the right to change pricing at any time. Price changes will not affect orders already completed.

4.3 Delivery

Paid palettes are delivered digitally upon successful payment. Delivery is immediate in most cases. If you experience a technical issue preventing download, please contact us at the address listed in Section 14.

4.4 Refunds

As palette downloads are digital goods delivered immediately upon purchase, we are not able to offer refunds once a download has been accessed. If you believe there is a technical fault or the product is materially different from its description, please contact us and we will review your case in accordance with your statutory rights under UK consumer law.

Your statutory rights as a UK consumer are not affected by these terms. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 provide a 14-day cooling-off period for digital content; however, by completing a purchase you expressly consent to immediate delivery and acknowledge you lose this right to cancel once the download begins.

4.5 Failed Payments

If a payment fails, no download link will be issued. Please ensure your payment details are correct before completing a transaction. We are not responsible for charges applied by your bank or payment provider.

5Colour Naming: Automatically Generated Names

5.1 How Names Are Generated

Colour pairs and individual colours displayed on See Colour are assigned descriptive names automatically. These names are generated algorithmically or editorially and are intended to be descriptive and evocative in nature.

5.2 Third-Party Trade Marks and Intellectual Property

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that no colour names used on this site infringe the registered trade marks, proprietary colour systems, or intellectual property rights of third parties (including, but not limited to, proprietary paint ranges, Pantone® references, or brand colour names).

However, given the volume of names generated, it is possible that a name used on this site may inadvertently conflict with a name that is owned or registered by another organisation.

If you believe a colour name used on this site infringes your intellectual property rights, please contact us (see Section 14) with the following information:

  • Your name and contact details
  • The specific colour name you believe infringes your rights
  • Evidence of your ownership or registered rights in that name
  • The URL or location of the name on our site

We will review your request and, if a valid claim is established, will remove or change the name promptly. We will not be liable for any loss arising from the inadvertent use of such names prior to notification.

Submitting a claim does not guarantee removal. We reserve the right to assess each claim on its merits and to seek independent advice where appropriate.

6Colour Sponsorship

6.1 What Colour Sponsorship Offers

See Colour offers sponsorship opportunities that allow businesses, organisations, or individuals (“Sponsors”) to associate their name or brand with a specific colour or colour pair on the site. Sponsorship provides the following:

  • The right to name or rename a designated colour or colour pair
  • Attribution displayed on the site for the duration of the sponsorship period
  • Any additional benefits as agreed in writing at the time of sponsorship

Sponsorship does not grant ownership of any colour, colour code, or intellectual property. It is a display and attribution arrangement only.

6.2 Sponsorship Eligibility and Approval

We reserve the right to refuse any sponsorship application. Sponsorship names must not:

  • Be offensive, discriminatory, or contrary to public decency
  • Infringe the intellectual property rights of a third party
  • Be misleading or likely to cause confusion with an existing brand or product
  • Contain explicit, adult, or otherwise inappropriate content

We may remove or amend a sponsor name at any time if we determine it breaches these requirements, without refund.

6.3 Charity Sponsorship Option

Where a Sponsor elects to direct some or all of their sponsorship fee to a charitable cause:

  • The nominated charity must be a registered charity in the United Kingdom or an internationally recognised equivalent
  • We will use reasonable endeavours to make the donation to the nominated charity, but we do not act as a regulated fundraiser or intermediary
  • Any donation is made by us on behalf of the Sponsor and is not tax-deductible by the Sponsor unless they make the payment directly
  • We will confirm the donation has been made upon request
  • If a nominated charity is unable to receive funds (for example, if it has dissolved or is subject to regulatory action), we reserve the right to redirect the donation to a similar cause or hold the funds pending your instruction

See Colour is not a registered charity or fundraising platform. Charity donations made through sponsorship are discretionary goodwill arrangements and are not covered by Gift Aid or equivalent schemes unless separately arranged.

6.4 Sponsorship Fees and Duration

Sponsorship fees, durations, and any additional benefits will be agreed in writing prior to the commencement of any sponsorship. Unless otherwise stated:

  • Sponsorship is non-transferable
  • Fees are payable in advance
  • Sponsorship does not automatically renew

6.5 Refunds for Sponsorship

Sponsorship fees are non-refundable once a colour name has been published on the site. If sponsorship has not yet been activated (i.e. the name has not been published), a full refund may be requested within 7 days of payment.

7Intellectual Property

All content on See Colour, including but not limited to the site design, layout, typography, colour pair data, palette curation, naming conventions, and written content, is owned by or licensed to the site owner unless otherwise stated.

You may not reproduce, redistribute, or commercially exploit any content from this site without prior written permission, except:

  • Where content is explicitly made available for download (e.g. palette files)
  • Where use constitutes fair dealing under UK copyright law

Downloaded palette files are licensed for personal and commercial use by the purchaser only. They may not be resold or redistributed as standalone products.

  • Loss arising from third-party payment processing issues

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other matter that cannot be excluded by law.

Your privacy is important to us. Any personal data collected in connection with purchases, sponsorship enquiries, or contact forms will be processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy and in compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Payment information is handled directly by our payment processor and is not stored by us.

11Third-Party Services

This site may use third-party services for payment processing, analytics, or hosting. These services operate under their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of these third parties.

12Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms and Conditions at any time. The date at the top of this document reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Where changes are material, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users.

13Governing Law and Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of See Colour shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

We hope any issues can be resolved informally. If you have a complaint, please contact us in the first instance and we will do our best to resolve it promptly.
